Our New Restaurant!

We're so excited to reveal the name and location of our new restaurant.

Situated at the top of Calton Hill, we're opening The Lookout by Gardener's Cottage in partnership with Collective, the organisation currently re-developing the City Observatory site into a new home for contemporary art.

Built on a cantilever so the restaurant is partially suspended over Calton Hill’s northwest slope, The Lookout by Gardener’s Cottage will feature floor to ceiling glass windows and promises panoramic views across Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. 
 
We don't have an opening date yet - but will announce as soon as do.

OPENING HOURS

Our opening hours in August are changing! We're opening later to make the most of the summer nights. Our terrace and beer garden are open all day.

Monday - Wednesday: 8AM - 7PM

Thursday - Saturday  9AM – 9PM

Sunday: 10AM - 7PM

Experience our wonderful sharing boards, hand-rolled pasta and nibbles with us every evening from 4pm.

Expect delicious offerings of:

  • Baked tagliarini with aubergine and lamb meatballs 
  • Burrata, chilli, lemon and rocket pizetti 
  • Boards - Charcuterie, cheeses, mezze with house-made pickles

BURGER FRIDAYS

Every Friday night throughout the summer (weather permitting!) we're serving our fabulous burgers FREE between 4-6pm in the beer garden.

Handmade in our kitchen butchery from pig and lamb sourced from Grierson Organic, they're at their juiciest best when cooked on the barbecue grill by our chefs.

No need to book, just turn up. If it's not BBQ weather, we'll be serving our evening menu inside until 9.00pm. See Sundown Menu above.

BBQ AND LIVE MUSIC THIS SATURDAY

Join us on Saturday 14 July for a BBQ and live music from Chris Finn in our beer pen, starting at 3pm.

We're busy building an outdoor bar and can't wait to start pouring Six Degrees Northand Cross Borders Brewing Company beers from our taps. We'll also have top-notch G'n'Ts made with Secret Herb Garden gins and lots wonderful wines to choose from by the glass (or bottle!).

Our terrace is open from 9am (from 10am on Sunday too) for breakfast, brunch and lunch. There's so much deliciousness to choose from: fresh croissants, pastries and cakes from our bakery, superb sourdough sandwiches, seasonal salads and soups, egg-based brunch dishes and the best coffee from our neighbours Williams and Johnson. You could stay all day!

Thanks to everyone who came to our beer garden launch - we had a blast! Lots of you suggested we do it every Friday. You speak, we listen, so we've decided to serve our fabulous burgers FREE between 4-6pm every Friday throughout the summer.

We'll also be serving our Evening and Sundown menus in the beer pen until 9pm - so you won't go hungry if you miss out!

WHAT A SURPRISE!

Well, we had a quite a surprise on Friday when Gordon Ramsay, Gino D'Acampo and Fred Sirieix popped in for some lunch. We had a booking under Studio Ramsay but absolutely no idea who would be turning up. Everyone's chins dropped to the floor when they arrived!

They were great fun and asked loads of questions about what we do. Dale enjoyed a good old chat with them. But what did they eat, we hear you ask. To start with, they all tucked into our sourdough with Oritz white tuna in olive oil, Cantabrian anchovies and Olivar de la Luna organic olive oil. Gordon had the pheasant back mushroom quiche with organic salad. Gino had a Grierson Organic pork burger (butchered at QC!) on a rapeseed brioche bun. And Fred had an asparagus and Isle of Wight tomato tart with carrot, chilli and lemon soup. They all finished with Williams & Johnson coffee. Gordon made a couple of Instagram videos - take a peek here.

IT GETS BETTER!

We're all still buzzing from the excitement of Friday but can't wait to share even more news with you. Our BEER GARDEN launches this Friday! Yes, you heard us correctly. We've taken over some extra space at the back and will be working hard this week to transform it into the best beer garden on the shore!

LET'S PARTY...

We want to kick things off with a bang, so we're throwing a launch party - and you're all invited! We'll be firing up the BBQ and serving free organic burgers and salads (until they run out). The drinks will be flowing from our al fresco bars including Secret Herb Garden Gin cocktails and local beers (keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels as we announce our party partners). And we'll have live music to keep the party going until late. Sounds like a pretty good way to get the weekend started. Join us from 4pm on Friday 6th July, and let's party!
